What an honour it was to have spent Zambia's Independence day aftermath with madam Cynthia Zukas,MBE at a photography exhibition that was held at 37d gallery.
She was an anti-apartheid activist in South Africa in the 1960's and has made a name for herself in the world of art and cultural heritage. She is the chairperson and founding member of the Lechwe Trust,a charitable Trust for the visual arts in Zambia. About seven years ago,she was awarded an MBE.
She is married to Simon Zukas, one of the few white men who stood up against the culture of white supremacy in the years before Zambia achieved statehood in 1964.He was an active participant in Zambia's struggle for independence.
Now 94,Mr. Zukas retired from politics in 2005.
