Taking care of the small details with @ericklenofsky 💰 In the first clip, you can see Eric’s center of gravity is a bit forward and causes him to be off balance when performing his second jump. In the last two clips, we worked on landing with his chest and hips higher and distributing the weight across his whole foot and not just on his toes. A little #throwbackthursday to when I took a few of my high school athletes to a lifting meet. We were training through the winter grind and I noticed alot of the kids strength were going through the roof. So I asked a few if they wanted to have some fun with it and see how they did at a local high school lifting meet. We never trained for the meet, we just continued with my normal winter program design. Two out of three of the athletes ended up taking first place. Devin Nau, who hadn't back squatted since well before the start of football season, ended up squatting 500+, @addisonnking blew the women's division away and is now a member of the @pennstatepowerlifting club and @ryanflowers61 is now playing collegiate football at Lock Haven University, majoring in exercise science. Experimenting recently with a more extended knee and flexed hips in the set position for standing starts and what I’ve found is that it sets up positions very well for a max v. One issue is that sometimes pushing can be harder at the start and momentum can be hard to gain. But when the athlete gets it right... 🔥🔥🔥 One of the cues used is to hinge at the hips until you feel tension on glutes and hamstrings.. kind of like stretching an elastic band, rock back then GO!

The faster a car is moving, the harder you have to press on the brakes to stop. I.e. The more aggressive you push into your penultimate step, the harder your “brake foot”(last step) will be. Other things you may notice is the angle of your brake foot will also change depending on how much force is applied (If we are trying to jump straight up).

SAGITTAL PLANE POWER 💥 I like to use the slam ball with my athletes looking to gain power from the hip, abdominal and shoulder muscles. Here comes the bi annual Plyometric post! It's certainly one area I spend a lot of regular time studying, especially as our knowledge of the true elastic abilities and properties of muscle and connectivity tissue continues to grow. While out feet stay on the pedals when riding bikes, our need to have exquisite control of stiffness and excellent reactive strength is still very important. The muscles that control movement aroud our hips and knees must act with adequate force and timing to allow the lower leg, foot and ankle to function as a quasi "stiff spring".
