December 2014... So much has changed since then, but this relationship has not.
My dad is the ultimate “dad” you read all those memes about.
And to be honest, he’s been that dad for as long as I can remember.
Socks with sandals, pants up past his belly button, “pull my finger” and other dad jokes, asking when we got our oil changed last, countless sports facts, and trying so hard to keep traditions alive.
Christmas brunch is one of those traditions.
For as long as I can remember, in my adult life, we’ve had brunch at daddy’s on Christmas Day.
Has it been hard? Definitely. Growing up, having families, different schedules, divorce, life tries to get in the way. But every year, without fail, dad is ready for Christmas brunch, with his turkey bacon and newspaper wrapped presents.
Sometimes I have to stop myself around the holidays. See, we get so “busy” trying to run around and make everything perfect that we forget to enjoy little moments and little traditions.
In a blink of an eye years go by. Then you’re sitting here looking at a picture from over 5 years ago wondering how many more Christmas Day brunches you’ll get.
So here’s your holiday reminder to slow down. The tree doesn’t have to have perfectly placed ornaments. The kids don’t have to match for those Santa pictures. You can moan and groan about a 2 hour drive on Christmas morning all you want. But take the pictures. Enjoy your time with the ones you love.
We are so blessed.
