HT: Barça 1-1 Inter.
A half that by that no means could be perceived as pleasing to the eye. As most Italian teams we have faced, Inter have dominated us in the physical side of the game and have embarrassed us by winning almost every physical duel they had to deal with.
As predicted, Barça went with an odd but intriguing 3-5-2 formation which would often involve a CM (mostly Vidal) to occupy a more attacking role and occasionally act as a CAM. We've obviously been vulnerable in defense numerous times with this formation and along with that many players would be seen clashing with each other. Nevertheless, considering this was a new system, the players did fairly well. I assume Valverde wanted to see Wague and Firpo's attacking prowess in this role, but sadly, we are still lacking that incisiveness up front.
Inter have had a bucket load of opportunities, yet surprisingly we were first to lead the scoreline. Griezmann who intended to initially find Vidal with a solid through ball failed as the ball deflected by the Inter defender, however, Carles Perez who was in a wonderful position gave us the lead as he received the ball comfortably and brought us 1-0 up. Inter with their head in hands were obviously distraught and consequently, turned the switch up a bit. The Italians right before the half time whistle got the goal they had been hankering for so long as Lukaku found the back of the net with a classy finish.
Overall, we have been decent. Perez and Aleñá have been a sight for sore eyes. Aleñá's performance will go unnoticed by many but he was one of the few players creating chances in midfield and working effectively under excessive pressure.
