A. Viot & Fils Millesime 2008 Brut Champagne
Even though most producers have replaced their terrific 2008's with 2009's, 2012 or 2013 that's usually more approachable in character and less powerful, there is still some great value 2008 out there on the shelves to be found. In 9/10 cases, it's a very safe buy!
5th generation grower A. Viot & Fils owns 8 hectares of vines and did start to produce Champagne in 1921.
The family's total production is only 65 000 bottles/year.
The bouquet is delicately fresh and fruity with hints of pleasant mature notes. Plum, ripe pear, pastries, apples/candied apples, honey and a tad herbal.
Creamy and rich initially with notes of pear, brioche, chalk and crispy minerality. Nice overall structure and balance.
Not overly complex. Instead it feels quite youthful and refreshing. Especially the high, splendid acidity is very evident.
Long finish. Apple-tart and nutty.
A good value 2008, that's no hurry to consume now.
5-10 years of additional cellaring would only be favorable to gain more maturity, depth and complexity.
A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
Aged 8 years before release
