In January 19, 1934
Yaba Higher College,
-The Tertiary Institution in Nigeria, was found
It was opened on January 19, 1934 though it admitted its first students in 1930.
It was welcomed by a barrage of criticism by Nigerian elites who saw it as a monument to inferior, bookkeeper-type education. Colonial administrators did not hide the fact that the College was conceived as a vocation as technical school to train assistants for Government Departments and private firms.
It was an “all-male” residential institution offering classes in agriculture, forestry, medicine, veterinary science, surveying and civil and mechanical engineering.
