I think with all our positions, we have a lot of competition for spots, but whatever side we decide to go into round one with, it's really important regardless of results that we give that group six or eight weeks to really build cohesion and connection," he said.
"What we want to do is give everyone ample opportunity to put their best foot forward in pre-season."
Seibold said he wanted to give Boyd every opportunity to nail down an outside back position for round one. He also said that neither the 32-year-old former international nor any other senior players had been issued ultimatums in the wake of the 58-0 loss to the Eels in week one of the finals.
"Darbs has had reps at left centre. He will do some reps on the wing. He is a multiple-position player and he has played at the elite level for a long time," Seibold said.
"It's never come from me that Darius or the older guys are on notice or are going to play Queensland Cup. We said what needed to be said at the end of the year. I don't like the amount of information that comes out of our club, all the speculation, but that's the world we live in.
"Darius is someone with a lot of deposits in the bank. We don't have too many guys who have won premierships in our club and he has won two. He is a special person off the field and he has an opportunity like all the other guys to put their best foot forward in pre-season. We want to give Darius the best opportunity to play first grade."
Boyd has 317 NRL games of experience and 31-year-old Alex Glenn, who recently re-signed for two season, has 259. It is just one reason why the duo are so valuable to the Broncos.
"We only have two guys over the age of 30 in our squad, Alex Glenn and Darius Boyd. Last year, we had the youngest roster in the competition, so… one of the reasons I was really keen to retain Alex was because of his experience," Seibold said.
When asked whether Boyd was staying on as captain Seibold said any decisions about the makeup of next season's leadership team would be kept in-house until announced in the coming weeks.
