I'm quite amazed by how my latest visit to Jordan has managed to do a 180 on my entire world view. As soon as I reached the border crossing, I've made an attempt to act cool, but in all actuality, was shivering with fear inside. Psyched to wander into the unknown but deep down, having had way too many legitimate doubts rushing through my mind. I felt as if I was making an irreversible mistake that'd put my life in jeopardy .
My solo trip throughout Jordan was my first intro to the third world, and I didn't know what to make of it to begin with. Everything around appeared so exotic to me, and out of touch with my reality. From the way the locals dressed, to their eating habits, customs and even manners. ..
Here's the thing, at the core of it, we are all humans. We go through our lives trying to make sense of this crazy universe at our own pace and through different paths. The media and the many clashing religions out there can't help but bombard us with countless misleading and brainwashing messages and half-truths. Certainly there are two sides to every story. A story could never be covered completely subjectively. And the story teller always has to take a side whether they realize it or not. I've quit keeping up with the news years back, and quite frankly, media detox has only done good to me thus far. From here on out, I'm going to remind myself to keep an open mind when reaching uncharted territories, and let my personal travel experiences shape my reality. We shouldn't let the few wackjobs ruin it for the many, and keep us away from amazing locations and adventures we can't even begin to fathom. .
