PL GAME 16:
WEST HAM (A)
We face West Ham at the London Stadium tomorrow night with a chance to potentially rejuvenate some pride and optimism around the club. We are in desperate need of a win and a positive performance, and this could be the place to get it, with West Ham in similarly poor form, struggling in all aspects of their game under Manuel Pellegrini.
As for our line-up, I want to see us revert to a more conventional 4-3-3/4-2-3-1, with natural wingers providing a bit of balance to our side, instead of Ozil and Aubameyang being deployed out wide. I'd like to see both Pepe and Martinelli start in these wide areas, both having more than earned a starting birth. This means that Lacazette must indeed be dropped, with Aubameyang returning to his more comfortable central role. Lacazette hasn't offered enough in away games in particular to merit another start. In behind them, whilst most will call for Ozil to start again, personally I feel Willock would be much better suited to a counter-attacking system that this front 3 are set up for. He may have been poor on Thursday night, but as a young player you have to expect inconsistencies in his game, and it's reasonable to suggest he's the only real goal threat we have from midfield. Xhaka and Torreira remains our best and most balanced midfield pivot, despite it underwhelming against Brighton, whilst defensive personnel remains a huge issue. Bellerin and Tierney must start in the full-back roles. At the centre of our defence, I can't bear seeing Luiz or Sokratis start again, so if Holding is fit, I'd love to see him partner Chambers.
